Hi! My name is
Whiskey Cook

Whiskey, a golden English Cocker Spaniel, sitting on the grass with a frangipani flower behind his ear

I'm a 3-year-old English Cocker Spaniel.

Nicknames include Little Bear (Jude) and Shit Face (James).

I love humans and cuddles, I'm not the biggest fan of other dogs (except for my big brother, Percy), and I can feel sad or lonely if left alone too long.

I have idiopathic epilepsy, so routine is very important to keep my seizures under control.

The single most important thing to know:

I take medication 3× a day.

The exact time doesn't matter โ€” just never more than 8 hours between doses. My preference is 6am, 12pm and 8pm.

Below is everything you need to know about me and my home.
Thank you for taking such good care of me ๐Ÿค

  • First thing when I wake (around 6am usually): give me my morning medication.
    • 1ร— Keppra 500mg (yellow oval tablet)
    • 1ร— Zonegran 100mg (red & white capsule)
    • 1ร— Zonegran 50mg (grey & white capsule)
    • ยฝ Apoquel (half a white tablet)
  • You can put the pills straight down my throat.
    • I often try to spit them out, so please watch carefully.
  • Morning walk โ€” about 1 hour.
    • I'll usually do my poo on this walk.
  • Breakfast
    • 2 scoops of the frozen food. Sometimes I need some help to get started eating it โ€” feed me a piece or two then I'll slowly get into it. If I don't, let it defrost for a bit and try again.
  • Teeth brushing โ€” once daily, right after breakfast.
    • Just the canines, with a little tooth gel on the finger toothbrush. (See the how-to video.)

  • Toilet break โ€” let me out for a wee (around midday).
  • Lunchtime medication โ€” 1ร— Keppra 500mg (yellow oval tablet).
    • This is my middle dose for the day โ€” remember, never more than 8 hours between doses.

  • Optional 20-minute walk.
  • Not essential if I've had toilet breaks during the day.
  • Dinner โ€” 2 scoops of the frozen food.
  • Toilet trip right before bed.
  • Evening medication
    • 1ร— Keppra 500mg (yellow oval tablet)
    • 1ร— Zonegran 100mg (red & white capsule)
    • 1ร— Zonegran 50mg (grey & white capsule)
  • Sleeping arrangements
    • I can sleep on the bed, sofa, or anywhere I feel happiest.
    • Usually, this means on top of you!

  • Administer rectal valium during the seizure if you can โ€” it's a plastic syringe device with a bandage wrapped around it. Straight up the bum!
  • Seizures should only last a few minutes and the valium should help.
  • After a seizure:
    • I'll be anxious and clingy.
    • I wet or soil myself during the seizure, so I'll need a bath, then a short walk to relax.
    • If I refuse to walk, that's okay.
    • Mostly just give me lots of love and cuddles. ๐Ÿค
